Immigration Rights Defense Center

Derechos, the Immigrant Rights Defense Center is Latino Memphis’ in-house immigration legal practice which provides accessible legal immigration advice and representation, as well as serves the community by providing information and education on legal issues affecting immigrants.

Derechos also has a satellite office in Nashville, making Latino Memphis the only immigration nonprofit in Middle Tennessee that represents clients before the Memphis Immigration Court. Additionally, Latino Memphis is the only nonprofit in the Mid-South that represents individuals detained by immigration in Louisiana.

Our offices represent clients in affirmative applications with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, including applications for Asylum, Special Immigrant Juvenile Status and Naturalization. A large number of these cases are children who entered the country as unaccompanied minors.

For additional information about other immigration questions, concerns and legal processes you can also visit immi.org.

MEMigration Coalition

In addition, resources and reach are amplified by establishing a close collaboration with strategic partners. We are able to represent clients across the Mid-South by working closely with partner agencies in Tennessee, Mississippi, and Arkansas. Latino Memphis is a member of the MEMigration Coalition, a group of non-profit immigration programs based in the city of Memphis, established to increase our collective capacity to meet the overwhelming need for immigration services in our area. In addition to Latino Memphis’ Derechos Program, members include: Catholic Charities of West Tennessee’s Immigrant Services, Community Legal Center’s Immigrant Justice Program, Mid-South Immigration Advocates, and World Relief. The coalition provides workshops, legal clinics and informational sessions on immigration issues.
